Due to the rapid progress in experimental data, the scientific community is facing new challenges in big data management such as data volumes, data complexity, data rates, and data irreversibility.

PUNCH4NFDI aims to develop and share solutions to deal with these challenges ensuring FAIRness of the data – which is to make them Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. It will fulfill this goal by offering a data platform that consists of a data lake with storage and cloud computing systems, a data transformation layer allowing the analysis of the data, and a user-friendly interface functioning as a data portal, that serves the Particles, Universe, Nuclei and Hadrons (PUNCH) community and the entire National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI).

Our division at MPIK is taking part in the Data Transformations task, which includes statistical methods and cross-dataset analyses; further activities include the development of open-source data analysis tools such as Gammapy and supporting efforts towards FAIR data.
