Using AI-Tools in Publications

Tools using artificial intelligence (AI) have increasingly been applied in scientific publishing and can benefit authors by improving the language of scientific material including peer-reviewed publications.

That being said, the ethical implications of using AI should not be overlooked. Considering issues related to plagiarism, copyright, and data privacy, one must always ensure that their utilization of AI aligns with responsible and ethical practices.

To ensure the originality of their AI-assisted work, it is advisable to:

  • run the finished manuscript through dedicated plagiarism detection software.
  • specifically mention every used AI Tool as the publication could otherwise be flagged as partly AI-generated or even plagiarized.

Additional information on the use of AI Technology for scientific work can be found in the corresponding OHB entry provided by the Max Planck Society.
