Sven Sturm appointed adjunct professor

On 20 November 2024, Heidelberg University appointed PD Dr Sven Sturm as an adjunct professor (apl. Prof.) at the suggestion of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy. This recognises his outstanding achievements in research and teaching.

Sven Sturm studied physics at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg and then moved to the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz as a doctoral student (supervisor Prof Dr Klaus Blaum), where he received his doctorate with distinction in 2012. In the same year, he was awarded the Helmholtz Prize for precision measurements. In 2013, he received the AMOP Dissertation Prize of the DPG and the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society for his dissertation.

In 2013, Sven Sturm became group leader of the ALPHATRAP experiment and has achieved several groundbreaking results in the determination of the electron or proton mass. Since 2017, he has been active in the International Max Planck Research School for Quantum Dynamics (IMPRS-QD) and the Collaborative Research Centre IsoQuant (SFB1225). In 2022, he completed his habilitation at Heidelberg University, where he had been teaching since 2012. In 2023, he successfully applied for an ERC Advanced Grant: With his novel experiment ‘LSym (Lepton Symmetry Experiment)’, he investigates the question of the symmetry of matter and antimatter with high-precision measurements.
