José R. Crespo López-Urrutia Fellow of the American Physical Society

“For groundbreaking experiments on sympathetic cooling of highly charged ions and many contributions to spectroscopy for astrophysics, plasma physics, and tests of fundamental physics”, Apl. Prof. Dr. José R. Crespo López-Urrutia has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society.

José R. Crespo López-Urrutia received his PhD at the University of Technology Graz, Austria, in 1991. After postdoctoral fellowships at MPI für Quantenoptik in Garching and at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA, he moved to Freiburg University in 1999 as group leader and lecturer. Since 2001, he is a staff scientist at the MPI für Kernpyhsik in Heidelberg, leading the Electron Beam Ion Trap group within the division of Thomas Pfeifer. In 2021, he was appointed Außerplanmäßiger Professor to the Faculty of Physics, Heidelberg University.
