Title: Perspectives in hydrogen molecular ion spectroscopy

Abstract

It was first suggested in 1976 that the spectroscopy of hydrogen molecular ions could be a promising method to improve the determination of the proton-electron mass ratio. This has been achieved in recent years as precisions in the few-ppt range were achieved both in experiment, using Doppler-free spectroscopy of sympathetically cooled HD+ ions in radiofrequency (Paul) traps, and in theory, using high-precision variational solutions of the three-body Schrödinger equation and systematic calculation of QED corrections in the nonrelativistic QED approach.Next-generation experiments will be performed on single molecular ions, either in RF traps, using quantum-logic spectroscopy, or in Penning traps, as investigated at the MPIK Heidelberg. Among other perspectives, they allow for improved measurements of the hyperfine splitting and of the bound electron's g-factor. After a general introduction, I will discuss the theoretical status and perspectives regarding these two quantities.
