Lecture information
Event type: Lecture in study course Master of Science (Physics) / MVSpec: Advanced Lecture on Special Topic (Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics)
Field of study resp. study course: Master of Science (Physics)
Contact hours: 3/week
Type of lesson: Lecture: Modern Mass Spectrometry (2 SWS), Tutorial with homework (1 SWS)
Short description:
The lecture is intended to give an insight into modern mass spectrometry
techniques. The knowledge is consolidated in the tutorial.
Theory, physical basics and instrumental techniques of mass spectrometric
methods are presented in the lecture. The main topic is the wide application
of mass determination of primary atomic species and elementary particles, e.g.
by means of accelerators, lasers, storage rings or particle traps. But also
actual methods of organics and "classical" chemical analytics are discussed,
e.g. MALDI-, ESI-MS and "hyphenated techniques". The lecture is intended to be
interdisciplinary and primarly directs to physicists and chemists as well as
to interested students of other natural sciences.
Mandatory/advantageous previous knowledge, Target Group: This lecture is intended for both bachelor and master students.
Useful literature: please see literature page
Tutorials or exams: tutorial with homework
Course Certificate-Criterions: at least 50% of the exercises and active participation in the tutorial
ECTS points: 4 ECTS points are granted for the course certificate
Remarks: The lecture material is placed at your disposal on the eLearning platform Moodle. Master and Doctoral Theses can be written about this subject area.
