The MINOS Far Detector
The MINOS (Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search) experiment will
use a long-baseline nu_mu beam from Fermilab to the Soudan Underground
Lab, comparing the nu signal at production and 735km later using
similar detectors. The "Far Detector" is the part of the experiment
located in Soudan, and is a 5.4 kt iron/scintillator layered
calorimeter. It is currently under construction and rapidly
approaching the half-way mark. Due to its layered construction, data
can be taken immediately after a steel/scintillator plane is
installed. Using cosmic rays as a signal, this has allowed valuable
debugging and commissioning progress to be made along the whole
experimental chain, from light produced in the scintillator all the
way through the data analysis software. This poster presents some of
the details of the world's newest neutrino and cosmic ray detector.
