Dr. Jonathan Morgner receives an Otto Hahn Medal from the Max Planck Society ‘for his work on the high-precision experimental verification of predictions of quantum electrodynamics’. The MPG honours his outstanding scientific contributions in the course of his dissertation Stringent Test of Bound-State Quantum Electrodynamics with Highly Charged Tin, which he carried out from 2020 to 2024 at the MPI for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) in the division of Klaus Blaum..
Jonathan Morgner studied physics at the Leibniz Universität Hannover. During his Master’s degree, he spent several months doing an internship at CERN in 2017 and 2018 as part of the BASE collaboration. In 2020, he joined the division of Klaus Blaum at MPIK for his doctoral work and since since 2026 he is a CERN research Fellow, working with the BASE collaboration on studying antiprotons.
Every year since 1978, the Max Planck Society has awarded the Otto Hahn Medal to young researchers for outstanding scientific achievements, mostly in connection with their doctorate. The award is presented during the General Meeting of the Max Planck Society in the following year.
