Title:

Old and recent puzzles in Flavour Physics

Flavour physics represents one of the most interesting and, at the same time, less understood sector of fundamental interactions. A series of recent results seem to indicate a coherent pattern of deviations from the Standard Model predictions in this sector. I will show how these 'anomalies' could naturally be linked to the old, and still open, puzzle of quark and lepton masses, and I will discuss attempts to solve both these problems in terms of physics beyond the Standard Model.

Mass Measurements and More Utilizing the PI-ICR Technique at JYFLTRAP

The phase-imaging ion-cyclotron resonance (PI-ICR) technique is currently the most advanced mass measurement technique available for short-lived (radioactive) ions. At JYFLTRAP Penning trap setup at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, we use the technique not just for mass measurements but also for mass separation. I will explain the used techniques and show some recent results.

THOR: The HI/OH/Recombination line survey of the Milky Way

The large program THOR conducted with the Very Large Array (VLA) is a Milky Way survey that investigates our Galaxy in the atomic gas 21cm line, in molecular gas OH emission, and in the ionised gas in the continuum and radio recombination line emission. With this diverse setup, scientific questions can be addressed from the formation of clouds and atomic to molecular gas conversion at early evolutionary stages, to feedback processes of HII regions at late evolutionary stages of star formation. This talk will give an overview of the project and present recent results obtained within the survey.
