 Special Seminar

Time, Place:

14:00 , Central Seminar Room

Speaker:

Cosimo Nigro, DESY Zeuthen

Title:

Joint-crab: towards an open source, reproducible gamma ray astronomy

Analysis and combination of data from different gamma-ray instruments involves the use of collaboration proprietary software and case-by-case methods. The talk will show how the effort of defining a common format for gamma-ray data (event lists and instrument response function, using the FITS format) can make analysis possible within the context of open-source software. The joint-crab project aims to be the first fully reproducible, multi-instrument gamma-ray analysis. Event lists of Fermi, MAGIC and HESS, compliant with a preliminary common data format and analyzed with the gammapy science tools, are used to produce a first joint fit of the Crab spectrum.

A HAWC's Eye View of the Galaxy

The HAWC (High-Altitude Water Cherenkov) Observatory is a wide-field very-high-energy (E>100 GeV) gamma-ray observatory located on Sierra Negra, Mexico. It has been taking data almost continuously for more than three years, and has detected gamma-ray emission from more than 40 sources, five of which are located within the Cygnus Region in our Galaxy. In this presentation, I will present recent results from the HAWC experiment, focusing in particular on the physics derived from sources in the Cygnus Region.
