The Large Hadron Collider is the world largest particle accelerator. Stationed 100m beneath the surface at CERN, it has a circumference of 26km. There are four experiments at the LHC. Two multipurpose experiemts (ATLAS and CMS) and two more specialized (LHCb and ALICE).

The LHC has a designed luminosity of 10 to the power of 34 per square centimeter and seconds. Colliding protons at a designed center of mass energy of 14TeV of which 7TeV are reached at the moment, it containes 1232 supra conducting magnets with fiel strengths of 8.6 Tesla to keep the protons on der cyclic trajectories.
