Application and AdmissionThe school offers PhD scholarships to talented students from all over the world. Admission will be granted on a competitive basis.
Prerequisites:
- Master of Science degree (or equivalent), average grade B+ or better,
- Master thesis (or publications in international, refereed journals),
- Proof of proficiency in English (if mother-tongue is not English or German),
- Sound knowledge of Quantum Mechanics (evidenced by course certificates, mark sheets etc.).
PhD students who obtain one of the IMPRS-QD scholarships in Physics are envisaged to become also members of the Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics.
Applications are expected to be accepted again in Autumn 2012. Excellent candidates may directly contact potential supervisors at any time.
After registration each applicant will be notified by e-mail within a few days whether he/she is encouraged to send in his/her complete application package including
- CV,
- Mark sheets and certificates documenting the complete course of studies,
- Certificate of highest degree obtained so far,
- Certificate, stating that you are among the top 10% of your peers,
- Master thesis (or publications in international, refereed journals),
- Proof of proficiency in English (if applicable),
- Description of research interests,
- References (of at least two academic teachers who are able to judge the applicant's personality and intellectual potential).
Applicants should not send any material until they are encouraged to do so.
In general, shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews with their potential supervisors and an oral presentation of their Master work.
