Cassini arrived at Saturn on July 1st 2004.
Up to now, Cassini traversed Saturn's E Ring 12 times.
During all crossings the in situ dust detector CDA (Cosmic Dust Analyser) detects E Ring dust particles and analyse their composition.
The first findings are:
  • E Ring is larger compared to results of earth-based optical measurements in 1995
  • dust particles of the E Ring consist mostly of water ice
  • the core of the E Ring coincides with the orbit of the embedded moon Enceladus
