Lecture information

Event type: Elective; continuative lecture in the field atomic-, molecular- and quantum physics

Field of study resp. study course: Physics

Contact hours: 4/week

Type of lesson: Lecture: Atom-Laser-Interaction in Traps (3 SWS), Tutorial with homework (1 SWS)

Short description (please see also content page): The lecture gives insight into the modern and exciting fields of laser spectroscopy and laser-atom interactions in particle traps. Both experimental and theoretical fundamental aspects are addressed. Laser spectroscopy and trap techniques provide an ideal atomic physics approach to the precise determination of important quantities in atomic and nuclear physics. In this context, cooling and storage methods become more and more important.

Mandatory/advantageous previous knowledge, Target Group: Basics of atomic physics, the lecture directs to students of 5th and higher semester.

Useful literature: please see literature page

Specifics: tutorial with homework

Course Certificate-Criterions: at least 60% of the exercises and active participation in the tutorial

ECTS points: 4 ECTS points are granted for the course certificate

Remarks: The lecture notes are placed at your disposal on the eLearning platform Moodle in pdf format. PhD and Diploma Thesis can be written about this subject area.
