PhD student positions
PhD thesis within the HITRAP experiment at GSI Darmstadt, Germany
The HITRAP experiment is looking for a PhD student interested in working in the field
of ion traps. HITRAP is an ion trap facility under construction at GSI which is designed
for capturing and cooling of highly charged ions (HCI) produced at the GSI-accelerator
complex.
The division is involved in this experiment and
supervises PhD theses at HITRAP.
- Determination of the rest gas pressure inside the HITRAP Cooler Trap (start of project in autumn 2007)
- Detemination of the loss rates in the HITRAP low energy beam line (start of project in spring 2008)
Techniques:
- production and storage of highly charged ions
- detection of single particles
- ion-trap technology
- low-temperature physics
- rf- and microwave technology
