PENTATRAP magnet
Cryogenic testing equipment for low temperature electronics in the PENTATRAP lab of the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg

The PENTATRAP experiment searches students interested in working in the field of ion traps. The experiment is currently being set up and put into operation. (Left photo: cryogenic testing equipment for low temperature electronics in the PENTATRAP lab of MPIK Heidelberg, right photo: test magnet in the PENTATRAP lab.)
The experimental program could e.g. include tests of the cryogenic detection system, the commissioning of the already existing trap tower and the cryogenic experimental environment and many other interesting tasks.

The following techniques are applied:

  • Production and storage of single ions
  • Detection of single particles
  • Low temperature physics
  • Rf- and microwave technology
  • Superconducting magnets
  • Labview based experiment control and simulation calculations
